Federal Minister for S&T Khalid Hussain Magsi visits PCSIR Labs Complex, Karachi

The Honorable Federal Minister for Science & Technology Mr. Khalid Hussain Magsi paid an official visit to the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) Laboratories Complex, Karachi. The visit marked a significant step towards fostering innovation and strengthening public-private collaboration in the scientific and industrial sectors of Pakistan.
Upon arrival, the Honourable Minister was warmly welcomed by Dr. Hafiz Rub Nawaz Director General, PCSIR Labs Complex, Karachi who introduced the visiting dignitary to the key officials and scientists present. A comprehensive presentation was delivered by Dr. Razia Sultana, Director Planning & Development, highlighting the ongoing projects, strategic goals, and research contributions of PCSIR.
Heads of all PCSIR’s Centers, along with Representatives from the Industrial Liaison Office (ILO) and the Marketing Division, attended the session and showcased the organization’s commitment to scientific excellence and industry-oriented research.
The Minister was particularly impressed with PCSIR’s innovative value-added products derived from Cannabis and Hemp, as well as the locally developed water purification plant Lab and biomedical equipment, Indoor Air Purifier and milk adulteration testing kits. The state-of-the-art Motor Testing Facility also drew commendation for its role in quality assurance and standards compliance.
While appreciating PCSIR’s vital contributions to the export and import sectors of the country, the Minister underscored the need to enhance visibility and scalability of PCSIR projects through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models. He emphasized the importance of commercializing research outputs to maximize national benefit.
During the tour of the laboratories, the Minister expressed satisfaction with the facilities and capabilities of PCSIR Karachi, including the Microbiology, Food Testing, Environmental Testing, Pharmaceutical, and Calibration Testing facilities. He praised the dedication and expertise of the scientific teams and encouraged continuous innovation and quality improvement.
The visit concluded on a note of encouragement and optimism, with the Minister reaffirming the government’s support for PCSIR’s mission to advance science, technology, and industrial development in Pakistan.
