The Consumer Association of Pakistan (CAP) organised “13th Food Safety and Quality Conference 2022” at Dream World Resort and Convention Center at Karachi. Dr. Hafiz Rub Nawaz, Director General PCSIR Laboratories Complex, Karachi was invited as guest of honor. This seminar was organized to raise awareness among consumers regarding their rights.
Chairman CAP Mr. Kaukab Iqbal emphasised on the need of standardisation food products to maintain the quality of locally available and exported items. He said that the flow of substandard commodities by the food exporters for Pakistani consumers while ensuring provision of high quality goods for export is highly condemnable practice of doing business. He also said that Halal Food export business is a multi billion dollar industry that need to be developed.
Addressing to the participants, Dr. Hafiz Rub Nawaz, Director General PCSIR Laboratories Complex, Karachi said that strict action must be taken against the companies making and supplying substandard food items in the open market. He said that it is a serious threat to the lives of common man especially children. They have detrimental effect on human health and may cause serious diseases like cancer, kidney, heart, liver disorders, etc. He also highlighted the role of PCSIR for the quality assurance of food and food products and to facilitate the exporters of food commodities. DG Pakistan Halal Authority Mr. Akhtar Bhugio was also present on the occasion.
