Honorable Federal Minister MoST Senator Shibli Faraz visits PCSIR Laboratories Karachi

Senator Shibli Faraz, the Honorable Federal Minister for Science and Technology, visited PCSIR Laboratories Complex, Karachi on Friday, 18th June 2021. He was accompanied with Dr. Syed Hussain Abdi, Chairman PCSIR, Dr. Shahnaz Perveen, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, Director General PCSIR Laboratories Complex, Karachi and Dr. Atiq ur Rehman, Director (P&D) received the honorable guests. During the said visit, a detailed presentation / briefing about the available facilities, achievements and current activities of PCSIR, Karachi was given.

All heads of Centers, OIC Marketing, Admin, Accounts etc attended the meeting. He was satisfied that now PCSIR has started moving on its right track under the present leadership and taken tangible new initiative like Civil-Military R&D Projects, Precision Agriculture for import Substitutes and Aquaculture initiative with modern S&T interventions.

The Honorable Federal Minister urged upon the scientists/ engineers of PCSIR, Karachi to undertake productive and meaningful research by transferring its benefits to the common people.

He also emphasized to the researchers of PCSIR, Karachi to develop value added products from industrial wastes so as to contribute in national economy.

The Chairman PCSIR added that there is need of testing facility for electric Fans and appliances at Karachi and Peshawar.

In order to enhance the export of Pakistan there is need of on spot testing facility at Sea-Ports and Dry-Ports for minimizing testing time, and it is the requirement of custom, the minister appreciate this idea.

The honorable Minister advised to prepare a proposal for analytical custom port services, there will be a meeting so proposal should be sent within fifteen days.

The Minister added the development of Public Private Partnership, frame for effective commercialization of PCSIR products and services. The minister advised that the crunch points and core objectives should be presented in the presentation. He also said KPI figures / services should be elaborated sector wise and division wise so the performance of each group and division will be highlighted.

He asked different questions during the presentation i.e. what is enzyme inhibition activity, what are the products of PCSIR-KLC, what are their status, weather products are commercialized or not.

The Director General KLC explained all his questions. The Chairman PCSIR said that in past the expenditure in pension is very high and there is very less funding for the R&D activity. But in the current financial year 2021-22 billions of rupees have been allocated for R&D by Ministry of Science & Technology in key noted field.

KLC also arranged training under Prime Minister Program “Nojawan Pakistan” for Pakistani youth, which developed qualified skilled manpower which are able to work in industries.
