Pakistan’s Ministry of Commerce to Support PCSIR Karachi Testing Labs Modernization for Fruit and Vegetable Export

Export Development Fund (EDF), Ministry of Commerce, Pakistan will support the modernization of PCSIR, Karachi Testing labs for food commodities specially fruits and vegetable export.

A contract signed between EDF and PCSIR in the presence of the representatives of Pakistan Fruits & Vegetable Exporters Association and Officials of various government regulators.

Deputy Director, EDF Mr. Abdul Qayyum and Director General, PCSIR Dr. Hafiz Rub Nawaz signed a contract agreement on Monday Feb. 10, 2025 through which PCSIR, Karachi will modernized its Food Safety Testing Labs up to the level of top international labs by the financial support of EDF.

The ceremony was held at PCSIR, Karachi in which Director General, Marine Fisheries Department along with his teammates was present. Other delegates also participated via video link. The ceremony was initiated with recitation of Holy Quran. Director General PCSIR, Karachi welcomed the guests and described them roles the contributions of PCSIR in export enhancement. Later, Project Director, Dr. Sohail Shaukat briefed the participants about the vision, goals, objectives, accomplishment strategies and sustainability plans of the Project followed by a session of Questions and Answers. Deputy Director EDF, Mr. Abdul Qayyum highlighted the contributions and role of EDF in export promotion by strengthening the key export oriented organizations.

As per contract, the project is to be completed within the 24 months with the outcomes of the complete range (to that of international requirements) of accredited testing facilities in minimum turnaround time and affordable cost.
