PCSIR held 3rd Workshop on “Use Care & Maintenance of Scientific & Laboratory Instruments”

Research & Development in a country greatly depends on Scientific and Laboratory Instruments. These instruments are widely used in R&D institutions, industry and academia. These instruments are mainly imported which consumes huge foreign exchange.

Another challenge is the use, care and maintenance which require skilled manpower. This issue is realized by PCSIR-KLC and took up as national interest.

In this connection PCSIR-KLC organized and conducted a training program on “Use Care & Maintenance of Scientific & Laboratory Instruments” on 28 and 29 February, 2024 at lecture hall of KLC. Around 23Nos. of participants from various fields of life attended the training program.

The training covered HPLC, GC, Mass Spectrometer, Atomic Absorption Spectrometer, FTIR, High-Vacuum Technology, Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and General Repair & Maintenance Techniques. Mr. Faisal Ghazanfar, SSO, Dr Abid Karim, SSO, Mr. Arif karim, PSO and Dr. Sofia. Khalique Alvi, CSO delivered lectures.

The training focused on working principle of each instrument, hardware components used (instrumentation) and repair & maintenance techniques. The training was conducted from 9:00AM to 1:00PM with 8nos. of lectures.

In the end of lecture session, visit was arranged for the participants to the labs of HPLC, GC, GC-MS, LCMS, AAS, and UV-Vis-IR Spectrophotometer. Demonstration on these instruments was given to them for developing their understanding and knowledge of various components and instrumentation.

Dr.Hafiz Rub Nawaz, Director General-KLC and Dr.Razia Sultana, Director P&D presided the event. DG-KLC and Director P&D distributed certificates among the participants and asked about their learning and feedback. The participants appreciated the training program.
