Two-Day Workshop on Drug Bio-availability / Bio-equivalence and HPLC Technique”

Biochemistry & Biotechnology Section, Pharmaceutical Research Centre of PCSIR Laboratories Complex Karachi organized Two-Day Workshop on Drug Bio availability/Bio equivalence and HPLC Technique”  on May 29 & 30, 2024.

Bioavailability and Bioequivalence are critical aspects of drug development, ensuring that drugs are absorbed and utilized by the body effectively. Therefore, to develop understanding in students and researchers who are engaged in isolating and synthesizing new drugs, PCSIR Karachi Lab has taken initiative to develop skill and understandings to the students and researchers.

A team of scientists from PRC-KLC conducted training for 24 participants including students and professionals from the academia. This workshop provided a platform for hands-on training on bio-analytical techniques like Friability, Disintegration Dissolution and HPLC Assay of Drug and data handling. Two lectures were delivered by Dr. Kanwal Abbasi, SSO and Dr. Kauser Siddiqui, PSO which cover all the theoretical and practical aspects of the said topic as well as other team members Dr. Samina Iqbal SSO, Dr. Shagufta Shaikh SSO and Dr. Saeeda Bano PSO, demonstrates practical sessions.

The Two-Day work shop on Bioavailability and Bioequivalence successfully brought together experts from pharmaceutical research centre PCSIR and academia to discuss the latest developments in drug absorption and equivalence. The workshop also provided a valuable opportunity for professionals, researchers and students to exchange ideas for new drug development and stay updated on latest regulatory requirements and industry practices. Interactive session and panel discussion was focused on challenges and solutions in drug development, clinical trials and product approvals. The event emphasized the importance of ensuring drug efficacy and safety.

The event was spearheaded by Dr. Hafiz Rab Nawaz, DG-KLC and Dr. Razia Sultana, Director (P&D) and guided by Dr. Rashid Ali Khan, HOC-PRC who led the proceedings and solicited feedback from the participants regarding their experiences. The participants expressed their gratitude for the training program, acknowledged the scarcity of skills in practical handling in some private universities and urged to organize for more such events. The event culminated with the presentation of certificates to the participants, followed by a vote of appreciation for speakers and organizing committee, recognizing their efforts in making the event a success.
